Hannibal Square - 433 West New England Avenue Suite B - Winter Park, Fl. Stella Luca Salons Winter Park, Winter Park's Exclusive Kerastase Salons So, how long does Pulp Riot color fade? With proper application and aftercare, the lighter colors fade beautifully up to 25 washes, and the bolder colors fade beautifully up to 42 washes. Also, it should be noted, that while rare, certain medications and hair porosity issues can sometimes have a significant effect. We also strongly suggest that excessive time in chlorinated water or well water will shorten the life of the color. When washing, a high-quality sulfate-free shampoo should be used on the scalp area, and you should just let the shampoo run through the ends while rinsing with cool water. We recommend that you wait a couple of days to wash your hair for the first time. Pulp Riot should process at room temperature for 25 to 40 minutes and then rinsed with cool water, without shampoo. No developer should be used and using a conditioner or treatment prior to application because some can create a barrier. Care should be taken to make sure the hair is fully saturated. Pulp Riot should be applied to clean dry hair. Cheaper dyes are less vibrant, the vibrant period is brief, they fade quickly, and they fade poorly (the pinks fade to a salmon color, the greens fade to a muddy color, etc.) They’re more expensive, but they’re more vibrant, they last longer, and they fade true to tone.

The dyes used in Pulp Riot are the very highest quality of dyes. How long the colors stay in the vibrant period, how long they go through the fading period, and how beautiful they look during the fade are dependent on 3 things the quality of the dye, how it is applied, and aftercare. With semi-permanent hair color, you shouldn’t be asking how long it lasts… instead, you should be asking, “How long does it fade?”Īfter application, the hair goes through a vibrant period, and then over time the hair goes through a fading period, where sometimes Pulp Riot colors can look even more beautiful. If you have an Ulta near you, I recently got Redken blues put in, and they have not faded one bit at all. That’s the question we get asked most often. Re-dying the purple at home works best if you have dark hair that's been bleached so the purple will only show on the purple parts, or if you're purple all over. I use the blue one to maintain my blue hair and constantly get asked how long its been since my hair has been done. It is a dye, and it will stain, but it incrementally deposits color into hair. I absolutely love the Ion Pigments, which are meant as an in-shower color conditioner. The greatest problem you'll end up with is that the longer it sits the stronger the color gets. If you do your mother's and she does yours, it should work fine. This means no developer is involved and it's really safe and easy to do at home. Most fantasy colors (like purple) are direct dyes or demi permanent I think. If you have a sally beauty or similar near you, there are a handful of great direct dyes found there, especially by Ion and Artic Fox. That's the last time I used PR color in my hair. In 6 weeks it had gone from smurf blue to primary green. I had a stylist put Pulp Riot color in my hair. This should negate a lot of the fading that happens when you shampoo. Mix a direct dye like Manic Panic or Arctic Fox in with conditioner and let it sit on towel dried hair for 10 minutes after every wash. Make your own depositing conditioner, and use it every time. Train yourself to wash less and your hair (and schedule) will thank you. $30 twice a year and $5 once a month come out to the same cost per year. Hell, if you're doing any one of these, stop it! Salon shampoos are pricier because it's expected that you're using them less. If you wash every other day with Herbal Essences and steaming hot water, you're literally washing your money down the drain.

Wash less with better product and cold water. There's a few things you can do to slow the fading process. You can't change the chemistry of something.

Fashion colors are high maintenance by nature and saying "I think the dye should last longer" is kind of a moot point. Five washes is a lot- it's perfectly reasonable to expect deposit-only color to fade each time. What you're describing is par for the course for vivid colors.
